Everyone is talking about the climate these days, and how we can best introduce "the green transition" in order to avoid fatal consequences for our ability to thrive on the planet. As some of society's most respected and powerful voices, it seems clear that economists will have a big role to play in that transition. But how should the economists of the future be best prepared to help us achieve the society we want?

Right now, the economics curriculums at Lund University (and at universities around the world) are limited, teaching largely neoclassical theory and failing to give students an education in economic schools of thought such as Ecological Economics. Could this lack of pluralism be a barrier for future economists to consider alternatives that would allow us to live within environmental limits?

Rethinking Economics and the environmental organisation NOAH invite economics students and others from Lund University to a talk and workshop on economic pluralism, ecological economics, and degrowth.

Researcher in degrowth, Dr. Ekaterina Chertkovskaya will present her perspective on ecological economics, as well as the broader degrowth movement. Rethinking Economics will then run a workshop in how economic pluralism might look in the university curriculum, as well as contrasting environmental and ecological economics in how they would approach environmental problems.
